I have been working as a counsellor and supervisor for several years in North Devon. My offer to you is integrity, compassion, humanity and hope, and the feedback I receive from my clients is that I am a ‘safe pair of hands’ and have the experience, expertise and insight to see through the layers to the person underneath. I am emotionally very robust, and no matter what you tell me, I will listen to what you are saying with respect and will continue to have an unwavering belief in you as a worthwhile human being. You will not be shamed, whether you are seeking a more harmonious life, greater self-knowledge, or a place to express yourself.
If you have experienced trauma, or are living or working with those who have, this is one of my areas of specialism, where I have undertaken in depth additional training. I also welcome students as both clients and supervisees, and can offer you perspectives that will increase your confidence and improve your practice.
How I work: I am able to draw from many different types of therapy, and will discuss in our first session what you want to get out of your therapy and how you would like to work, as well as what I can offer and practical matters such as confidentiality and fees. You are the expert in you, and we will work at your pace, and revisit the agreement between us frequently to ensure you are getting what you need.
Relevant Qualifications:

Work experience
Before becoming a counsellor I was a Probation Officer and worked with people who had committed sexual or violent offences and people with convictions related to drugs and alcohol. This work has left me with insight into the issues that may be faced by people who have been affected by sexual, physical or emotional abuse by another, and informed my decision to train as a counsellor and focus on work around trauma. I also have increased appreciation of the struggles of those in the grip of addictive behaviours, and awareness of the impact that families and others close to a person who misuses substances can experience.
Prior to that I was employed as a teacher and lecturer for a number of years, teaching Business Studies, IT and Equine Science. I enjoy working with young people
